How to Create a Continual Membership

Modified on Wed, 27 May at 7:44 AM

Continual Membership bills on a recurring schedule and continues until the Client cancels. There's no automatic end date — Perks renew on whatever cadence you've configured, and the Client's payment method is charged automatically each billing cycle.

Before creating a Continual Membership, have your Classes, One-on-One Services, and any waivers or contracts already set up so you can include them as you build the Membership.

Where to find it

  1. From the Admin Website, click the menu icon in the top left corner.

  2. Go to Setup > Payment Options > Memberships.

  3. Click the plus sign in the top right corner to open the Create Membership screen.

Step 1: Details

  • Title and description.

  • For sale on: choose where the Membership can be purchased (App & Admin, Admin Only, or Not for Sale).

  • Waivers and contracts: attach a membership contract here. Liability waivers are best attached to your Classes directly.

Step 2: Does this include virtual content?

If your Membership grants access to Live Stream or other virtual content, select Yes. This affects how the Membership is displayed inside the iOS app.

Step 3: Pricing — set to Continual

This is the step that defines the Membership as Continual.

  1. Set the billing frequency and payment amount.

  2. When prompted to choose between fixed number of payments or continual payments, select Continual.

  3. Apply any discounted periods or registration fees as needed.

  4. Decide whether this Membership can be purchased more than once per Client.

Step 4: Perk renewal dates (if enabled)

If your studio has Perk Renewal Dates turned on, this section lets you set how each Perk renews. Each Perk can have its own renewal cadence — every X weeks, months, or years — with advanced settings for rollover periods that extend the Perk by a chosen number of days or weeks.

Perk Renewal Dates is a feature that needs to be enabled by fitDEGREE. If you don't see this section, email support@fitdegree.com to request it.

Step 5: Included Perks

Perks define what the Membership grants access to. You can include any combination of:

  • Class Perk — lets the Client attend Classes.

  • One-on-One Perk — lets the Client book One-on-One Appointments.

  • Guest Class Perk — lets the Client bring a guest to Classes by sending a Guest Pass.

  • Guest One-on-One Perk — lets the Client bring a guest to One-on-One Appointments by sending a Guest Pass.

For each Perk, configure:

  • Number of uses (or check Unlimited uses).

  • Whether This perk can be shared with related Clients.

  • Value per use — used for instructor payroll calculations on One-on-One Perks.

  • Which Classes, Class Groups, or Services the Perk applies to.

You can include more than one Perk of the same type, and a Continual Membership can include multiple Guest Perks.

Step 6: Create

Once your Perks are configured, click Create in the bottom right corner. If you create a Membership without any Perks, the system will prompt you to confirm — Memberships without Perks don't grant access to anything.

Things to know about Continual Memberships

  • Continual Memberships keep billing until cancelled — there's no automatic end date.

  • Continual Memberships are the only Membership type that supports selecting a future start date at checkout. Use this when you want billing to begin on a specific day of the month (the 1st, the 15th, etc.).

  • Editing the Classes or Services a Perk applies to, or changing conditional tags on the Membership, takes effect immediately for everyone currently on the Membership.

  • Adding or removing a Perk from the Membership template takes effect immediately for all current Members — not just future purchasers. This is different from packs and intro offers.

  • Memberships can be marked Not for Sale or edited at any time. From the Memberships list, click the three dots next to a Membership and choose Edit.

  • Any Continual Membership with a first billing period discounted to $0 will not request a payment method at checkout and won't be set up for autopay.
