Can my Clients Make Purchases for their friends on the app?

Modified on Wed, 27 May at 8:02 AM

Yes — Clients can pay for items, send Guest Passes, and even register their friends directly through the fitDEGREE App, as long as you've enabled Social Purchases in your studio settings.

Enabling Social Purchases

  1. From the Admin Website, click the menu icon and go to Setup.

  2. Open App Settings > Payment Settings.

  3. Turn on Allow purchasing items for others.

  4. Optionally turn on Allow purchasing account balance for others if you want Clients to be able to send Account Balance to friends.

What Clients can do once Social Purchases are on

On every registrable detail screen in the fitDEGREE App, Clients see a Bring a Friend button. Tapping it opens options depending on whether the friend has a fitDEGREE App account:

  • Register a friend directly for a Class — available when the friend has no outstanding registration requirements (waivers, tag restrictions, past-due bills, required profile fields). The Client pays with their own Guest Pass or by purchasing the friend an item.

  • Send a Guest Pass to a friend — works whether or not the recipient already has an account.

  • Purchase an item for a friend — Class Packs, One-on-One Packs, Intro Offers, or single drop-ins. The item lands on the friend's account.

  • Send a digital Gift Card to a friend by email — works for any recipient, including someone without a fitDEGREE App account.

  • Send Account Balance to an app friend (if you've enabled the account balance setting).

What's not available through Bring a Friend

  • Memberships cannot be gifted from the app because they involve recurring billing. The recommendation is to purchase a digital Gift Card that the recipient can apply toward their own Membership bill.

  • Standalone Guest Passes are not purchasable. Guest Passes always come from a Guest Perk that's included on a pack, Intro Offer, or Membership the sending Client already owns.

How Guest Pass use deduction works

A use is not deducted from the sender's Guest Perk until the recipient claims the Guest Pass. If the recipient never claims it, the sender doesn't lose anything, and they can continue sending Guest Passes until the Guest Perk runs out of uses or expires.

What about the older "Gift It" button?

If you have a Client referencing an older Gift It button in the Class or pack store, the new Bring a Friend flow covers all of the same use cases (sending a Class Pack, gifting a Gift Card, registering a friend) plus the new Guest Pass options. The Bring a Friend button has replaced the older gifting entry points.
